The #1 reason to hire a postpartum doula is to give the whole family the support they need to rest, heal, and bond with their new baby and each other.
The new mother needs to be able to stay down and rest as much as possible for at least the first two weeks. That means doing nothing more than caring for herself and her newborn. Without the help of a postpartum doula this is practically impossible especially when there are older siblings to care for. The doula can get tasks accomplished so that mom feels like she has permission to rest. A new mother may also feel uncertain about what is normal in her postpartum healing process and in the infant's development. A doula can educate using up to date, research-based information.
The new father may feel overwhelmed with household chores and caring for older siblings. He may feel unsure of his role in the new family dynamic. He may not know how to best support his partner. A postpartum doula can help ease the burden of household chores and caring for siblings. The doula can teach infant care and give advice about appropriate support. By freeing up Dad's time and giving him encouragement, he is better able to care for his partner and the baby. This allows him to bond with both when they need him most.
Older siblings often feel a wide range of confusing emotions when a new baby arrives. A postpartum doula can help parents give much needed love and attention to siblings during a vulnerable time.
Hiring a postpartum doula benefits the whole family by providing support that is tailored to your family's unique needs and preferences.
Both Parents need extra rest as well as opportunities to bond with the new baby and each other.
As a Christian, I believe that this is sacred work. I feel honored and privileged to serve you and your family in your home which is a sacred space. I believe that families are the building blocks of our society and our country. The postpartum period is a very vulnerable time when families need special care and nurturing. My goal is to provide the kind of support that parents want, need and deserve in order for them to thrive in their family life.
“Several months into my postpartum period, I had an accident that put me on crutches for several weeks. I could not have gotten through that period without Leann’s daily help! She helped facilitate continued bonding with my baby when I could not pick her up. Because my baby was becoming mobile and active, Leann kept both of us safe! Leann took care of me so that I could heal both physically and emotionally. Not only did she take things off my plate like cooking and light housekeeping, she provided a calm and healing presence, always willing to listen to me as I healed from my accident. As a result, my baby and I were able to continue our bonding through that tumultuous time and I was able to heal and become a stronger, more resilient mama!”
"As a first time mom, I was especially anxious about the postpartum period. LeAnn worked with me before I had my baby to prepare me for what to expect. She encouraged me by helping me stay positive and to visualize good things rather than focusing on my worries. She was always willing to listen and validated my feelings, always making me feel heard and understood, which was invaluable to me. When I had my baby, she was helpful in all the right ways. She offered to pick up supplies and/or groceries whenever she was out and we definitely utilized that service especially during the first few days after coming home from the hospital. She also helped me in my physical recovery by encouraging healthy eating and rest, even bringing yummy healthy snacks. She even arranged to come to my house for an early morning feeding so that my husband and I could get a little sleep. I felt completely comfortable having her take care of my baby and I slept well knowing that he was in good hands and I could relax. LeAnn is kind, calm, thoughtful and intuitively helpful--everything a good doula should be and I would recommend her to anyone in a heartbeat." -Postpartum Mother
